Research
Goals and Objectives
Research is planned to assess the impact of our technologically-based learning environments on patients’ health and satisfaction with their care. Using interactive multimedia, our goal is to engage learners with stimulating, timely, and customized information related to their care to:
- Improve the ability for patients and families to participate in their care
- Encourage and equip patients and families to ask better questions and make best use of the time spent with their doctors - Improve health care communication
- Decrease patient anxiety levels and improve patients’ knowledge, skills, and attitudes towards their procedures
- Help patients recall and understand details about their illness beyond resources currently-available in traditional patient education materials and consumer health websites
The impact of these new learning tools on patient outcomes and satisfaction will determine the demand and value of the production of these learning objects for a cross-clinical range of patient education needs, thereby establishing precedent at NYU for further research in this field.
