Traditions/Rituals (including Holidays)

The Chinese may practice Confucianism (a philosophy), Taoism, Buddhism or other faiths like Christianity. Atheism was encouraged in mainland China, and some patients will say they do not have any religion. Ancestor worship may also be practiced. Chinese New Year is a major holiday to be celebrated; Christmas and the Western New Year may also be observed. The other commonly celebrated days are the 1st and 15th day of the Lunar Month and the Moon Cake Festival (similar to Thanksgiving). Most of these celebrations are family-oriented.
